Slow steaming a Win Win situation

Maersk recently published an article about their slow steaming activity. The major reason for the activity is related to the financial crises and not fully recovered world economy.

They claim that:

  • A ship that reduces speed by 20% will use 40% less fuel
  • Their schedule reliability improved
  • CO reduction of 12,5% per container where achieved

It is interesting to see that the financial crises also have have some long term positive gains, in this case for the environment and for Maersk, a win win situation!
