Swedish Ferry on Fire at Gdansk Yard

The Swedish ferry Stena Brittanica is on fire at a shipyard in Poland. Fire Fighting is ongoing.

There are no reports of injuries in the fire.

The fire on the 241-meter Stena Brittanica began in connection with renovation work at a shipyard in Gdansk in Poland.

For unknown reason it started to burn in a staircase at 13:00 local time. All staff were evacuated immediately and no injuries were reported.

- We have staff on site to direct and control work, but not as work with the practical work, “says Jesper Waltersson, spokeswoman for Stena Line. Extinguishing Work continues on. The fire is said to be under control but it is unclear when the clan to be completely extinguished.

The ferry would have cabins and restaurants renovated and is supposed to be placed in traffic between Gothenburg and Kiel in January.

- We do not know when it might be sailing again. It all depends on how extensive the fire damage has been, “says Jesper Waltersson.

The ferry is built in 2003 and holds 600 cabins.
