DNV Type Approval for Uni-Safe Electronics BNWAS BW-800

Uni-Safe Electronics a/s has received an approval for it´s Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) BW-800.

The purpose of a bridge navigational watch alarm system (BNWAS) is to monitor bridge activity and detect operatordisability which could lead to marine accidents. 

The system monitors the awareness of the Officer of the Watch(OOW) and automatically alerts the Captain or another qualified OOW if for any reason the OOW becomesincapable of performing the OOW’s duties.

New regulations from IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) will require carriage of a BridgeNavigational Watch Alarm System complying with IMO performance standards.

New ships over 150 GT and new passenger ships constructed after 1 July 2011 shall beequipped with a Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System.

Forexisting ships, the equipment should be installed in connection with the first survey after thefollowing deadlines:

Existing passenger ships and ships over 3,000 GT: 1 July 2012.

Existing ships over 500 GT: 1 July 2013.

Existing ships over 150 GT: 1 July 2014.
